Extra-Curricular Activities

At BSC we offer a well-rounded curriculum, enhanced by a multitude of extra-curricular offerings, not usually seen in a school of our modest size. This comes about due to the dedication and enthusiasm of our teaching staff who work hard to create engaging opportunities for all types of learners.

There are a number of ways we offer students the opportunity to shine, to extend and challenge themselves. This includes:

A variety of competitions, including the National Maths, English & Science Competitions, Writing competitions including Book Reviews, Science Talent Search, National History Challenge, Australian Geography Competition, Asia Wise Competition, Game Design (Computing) and ACTU Website competitions for students with part-time jobs.

Access Asia School Project: Beechworth Secondary College is promotoed across Australia as a 'model' Access Asia school. Students enter the Asia-Wise competition each year. Research students are invited to work in Beechworth’s new Chinese Cultural Centre. Students are able to interact with teachers from Korea, India and Indonesia hosted regularly by Beechworth Secondary College. The school awards an 'Excellence in Asian Studies' prize to a VCE student every year.

Exchange Student Programs: Students come from Europe, South America and Asia to spend time with us.

Chess is popular in the college library at recess and lunchtimes. We provide both Chess and Backgammon sets.

The School for Leadership provides a live-in leadership program for Year 9 students, and selected Beechworth Secondary College students have thrived on this experience.

Bi-annual exhibitions in our Gallery Space showcasing students' Arts/Technology folios. From time to time, students are selected to participate in Top Arts in Melbourne.

English extension programs includes participation in the Melbourne Writer’s Festival as well as excursions to State Library international writer forums.

The SRC Network across the Hume Region encourages leadership skills through student forums.

The College Production is an annual event that gives a large number of students the chance to participate either on stage or as part of the backstage crew.

Kool Skools: Music students can participate in writing and recording their own music on the Kool Skools CD.
